Back Pain and New Shoes

Last night I work up at around 1 with my back hurting.  I had taken some Advil before I went to bed and that eased my pain enough that I fell asleep, but it obviously wore off and I woke up.  So I took my Bayer Back and Body (I always try to take something other than aspirin first, although I bet if I just took the aspirin in the first place I might not wake up in the middle of the night) and messed around on the computer for about 30 minutes.  When the aspirin started to kick in I went and slept on the couch.  The couch is always more comfortable for my back when I have this happen.  All in all, I only lost about an hour of sleep and I slept in for about an hour this morning, so I feel well-rested, despite my back.

Today I need to do laundry and pack for out trip.  We leave tomorrow to head to St. Louis (an early anniversary celebration for us) and then on Friday we will head to Missouri to spend a week with my family.  I might not be posting every day like I have so far but I will probably post on the days I don't run.

Before I did the laundry, I went through all of my skirts, shorts, pants and shirts to see what still fit and what didn't.  All of the things that didn't fit were too big (32 pounds gone!) so I bundled them up to donate, either to Salvation Army or to a friend of mine who is losing weight and needs some in between sizes (between her old weight and her goal weight).  I was amazed at how much stuff I was able to get rid of.  I think I am now down to only taking my my fair share of the closet.  I still have to go through my tanks tops and T-shirts, but the nicer stuff is all organized now.

After lunch, I took the dog to the groomers, dropped off the clothes and my friend's house and then went to the running store.  I went to a store called Road Runner Sports.  They were busy, but worth the wait.  They were extremely nice and helpful and helped me to get a shoe I that felt good and would be best for me.  The shoes were reasonably priced and I if I don't love them, I have 90 days to return them.  They said they can even be dirty, which I implied to mean that I should run in them and not worry about them being pristine, just worry about them feeling good.  I ended up getting a pair of Brooks Adrenalines and a pair of moisture wicking socks (the guy recommended them and since I had been thinking about a getting a pair anyway, I thought I would try them).

My new kicks!
I then picked up the dog from the groomers and went home to change and run with my friend.  I made sure to attack myself with sunscreen because of the temperature and because riding in a car for 6 hours would be even less fun with a sunburn.  Since I had spent time at the store, we started about an hour later than normal, the temperature wasn't any hotter (still 87 degrees, ugh!) but the sun was lower and more in our eyes because of it.  We still toughed it out for 40 minutes and then I went in to shower.

I spent the rest of the evening packing and list making for our trip.  I am super excited!
