Run Book and Keeping Things Private

Yesterday I did get to run with my friend and we did my intervals.  I pushed myself too fast on the first two (I have trouble with interval pacing outside) and definitely did the last three at a slower pace than I typically would.  I did however have a faster overall pace than I would have if I had done it inside, so it worked out ok in the end.  I had a really good time with the run and the weather even cooperated.  It rained off and on all day, but it stopped about raining and the sun came out to dry everything off about an hour before we were  going to run.  And then when it was time to run, the clouds came back with a nice cool breeze.  We couldn't have asked for better weather.

We are going to run together again tomorrow, to get in one more run before I go on vacation.  We are planning on running together once I get back from vacation and she is hoping to keep running while I am gone.  She might sign up for the quarter-marathon and the half-marathon I am doing in August and October, respectively.  It would be fun to know some one else at the race.  I won't expect her to run with me but having someone to hang out with and wish good luck at before the race would be really cool.

This morning was a busy one.  We got up early (for summer) to take my car to the shop.  It needed a tire rotation and an oil change before we take it on our trip starting Thursday.  We almost always take my car on long trips, it gets 35 mpg compared to the truck's 23ish.  We dropped the car off at a shop near my friend's house because we were planning on me going to her house and picking up the car from there.

After that I transferred some soups that were cooling in the fridge into the freezer for my husband to eat while I am out of town.  Then my husband drove me and the dog to Joann's Fabric and Lowe's.  I needed to get some paper for my running scrap book and he needed some odd sized light bulbs for our desk lamps.  The dog came with us because immediately after that we went to the vet's.

We got to the vet about 15 minutes early but we were there for over an hour and a half!  I know that emergencies come up (in this case it was a kitten that had jumped onto a chair and knocked it over onto herself) but I would have appreciated at least being told what was going on, instead of waiting in the room for almost an hour and wondering if we had been forgotten about.

After that we grabbed some McDonald's for lunch (I had been planning on eating at my friend's house, but due to the extra long time it took at the vet's I knew they would have already eaten).  I hadn't had McDonald's in months.  It was filling and good, but I was happiest that I made good choices.  I ate one cheeseburger and about a quarter of my husband's fries.

My husband then dropped me off at my friend's house and we chatted for about 3 hours before she took me   to pick up my car.  She had asked if I wanted to stay for dinner and I had been considering it, but then my back started hurting.  It does this sometimes the day after runs of 3+ miles and I still haven't figured out exactly why.  I have narrowed it down though.  There used to be a laundry list of things that it could be but it is down to 3.  (1) Sitting with bad posture and without my back pillow for long periods of time, (2) changing the surface I run on or (3) needing new running shoes.  The first one is an easy fix, the second is more difficult to change but easily predictable so I could do things to help and the third is also easy to fix but more expensive.

Because of this, I am going to go to the running store tomorrow to get fitted for some good shoes.  When I started running I went out and spent a decent amount of money on a pair of running shoes at a sporting goods store, but they have several hundred miles on them and it is probably time to get a new pair into my rotation.  Also, now that I know this running thing is sticking around for a while, it will be worth it to be sure I have a good pair of shoes on my feet.

I spent some of my evening adding pages to my run book.  I store my old bibs and info about each race I've done in it.  I also make it kinda pretty and fun. Each race gets the front and back of a page.  The front has my bib and the basic info, where and what race and the back has a little blurb, more info (time, pace, temperature, etc) and pictures from the race.  Also in the front is a place for my PRs.  Not all of them are filled in yet, but there is a space for each race distance I plan on doing and it will be the easiest page to change.

My PR Page (not filled yet but will be on October 20th!)

I tried to find a paper to match a theme or idea from the race.

If some of them look a bit off in places, it is because I edited them some to remove identifying information.  I try to keep details like that off of my blog, more for the privacy of my friends and family (none of whom I have expressly told about this little blog of mine).  I know that based on what I have said and will say on here, some one could figure out who I am, but I hope that by doing these little things I can keep the mildly curious people from doing a simple Google search to find me.
