District Training

This morning I got up at 6, which will be my normal wake up time for the school year.  I was still tired out from the long weekend and my first thought when I got up was "I need to take a nap this afternoon," and then it hit me that the days of getting to nap in the afternoon were over for the next nine months of so.

Since my husband is still in Texas, it was just me and the puppy.  I took the dog for a walk after breakfast since it was going to be his first day being all alone at the house by himself.  After that I drove downtown to our district-wide teacher training.

They held the training in an old, converted fire station.  It was very nice-looking inside and one of the prettier places I have had an in-service in.  The location and the food made up for having to drive into downtown at 8 in the morning.  The fed us breakfast and lunch and had a good number of snacks available in the afternoon for us.  They did a wonderful job of keeping plenty of food out and filled up the water and coffee dispensers regularly.

The training was pretty standard for the most part, although the state of Ohio has produced a video (a very long video, almost 3 hours!) about school safety, which focused on school shooting situations and things we can do to help prevent them, what we should do during them and some things to plan for if one does happen.  It was a pretty intense video and very good.  It definitely gave us all several things to think about and I bet several teachers are going to be attempting to push some heavy furniture around in their rooms to see if they can use them to barricade their door.

After that (and lunch) we had abuse recognition training and then were done for the day.  We even got done early.  We also got some pretty decent "swag".  We got a nice bag, a pack of post-it notes that were inside a little book with a miniature hoodie as its cover, one of those nice insulated plastic cups and a portal phone charger!  We were all a little bit confused as to what the charger was at first but there were instructions, thankfully.  I am currently charging mine and then will see if I can get it to charge my phone.  If it works, then it is pretty cool!
All my "swag" from the day's events.
After I got home, I had a little bit of time to relax before my friend came to run with me.  It was really hot and humid so I didn't have the greatest run.  We also started out too fast and it took me too long to catch it.  We ended up going 2.77 miles in our 35 minutes, so not the best run ever but not the worst for an easy run.

After my run, I had dinner, talked to my mom on the phone and then did some stuff on the computer.  After that, I went to bed.  I was very tired from my long weekend and feeling a little bit like I might get sick soon, so I decided to get some extra sleep.
