Sundaes on Saturday

It was very odd to not be up super early to run today.  The weather outside was really nice and it was a little sad to not go running in it.  However, this weekend is going to be a busy one so I didn't have a lot of time to sit around and do nothing.

I took the puppy for a walk after breakfast and then went to the grocery store.  Some friend of ours are having twins any time now (they aren't past their due date but they are about a month away so they are out of serious danger) and I signed up to bring them dinner tonight.  I decided to make them lasagna, partially because it is easy to double.  I also made an ice cream pie, which also makes two.  So I was able to make dinners for two families at one time!

I got everything I needed for the lasagna and for the ice cream pie as well as all of our usual weekly stuff.  When I got home, I went straight to work.  I made the crust for the ice cream pie first, so it could cool properly before I added the ice cream and then I went to work on the lasagna.  I made the meat sauce for the lasagna first and then went to town on the two lasagnas, layering the noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan and sauce.  They ended up looking quite good!

I then finished up the ice cream pie, tossed it in the freezer, then threw together a bagged salad and turned a loaf of French bread into garlic bread y slicing in half, spreading it with butter and generously sprinkling some garlic powder on it.

After all of that, I had just enough time to sit down and eat my lunch before my husband and I headed over to take them their meal (they are going to bake it in their own oven tonight).  We loaded up all the stuff and got everything safely there.  I was a little worried about the ice cream pie.  It wasn't fully set yet, it should be by the time they eat it tonight, and was rather melty and got worse in the warm afternoon sun.  I was mostly worried about it spilling everywhere, but, while there were a few close calls, we made it over in one piece.

When we returned, I took a nap for a few hours to get ready for our busy evening tonight.  My husband napped with me for part of it, as did the puppy.  There was a period of time where we were all on the bed, which made me happy.

After my nap, I prepped the sundae toppings that we are bringing to our small group get together tonight.  I chopped up some mini candy bars (left over from Halloween, but they should still be good, right) and put them into individual cups.  They were a success the last time I brought them, so I am hoping they should be again.

In the back is Hershey's Cookies & Cream bars, the middle two are 3 Musketeers and Twix and in front are Hershey's Bars and Snickers.

We had our lasagna for dinner and it was pretty good!  It was probably not the most healthy things, but it was delicious!  After dinner, we headed over to our small group get together with the Sundae bar.  It was a good time and the candy pieces were well liked.  There were some leftovers and I was going to throw them away, but our group leader asked if they could keep them, which I of course let them do.  It was nice to get all of that candy out of my house and not into my stomach.

When we got home, I finished organizing all my stuff for tomorrow.  It is a bit more complicated than my average race since afterwards I am showering at a friend's house and then heading over to church, so I have to make sure I have everything I need to do both of those things.
