LAC Let Down

My husband decided that, since we hadn't heard anything from the people at DHH, that we would go ahead and spend the morning at LAC.  They had told us yesterday that our stuff wouldn't be in at the library until 11 at the soonest, so we weren't in a huge hurry.  Since we couldn't take pictures this morning, I decided that getting my run in while we had nothing else to do was best.  So when I got up, I ate breakfast, got ready to go run and then went down and kept my husband company while he ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

It was rather odd to be sitting in my running clothes in a restaurant and my odd feeling was compounded by the fact that I didn't eat anything (I decided that the heavy food that soon before my run would not have been good for my stomach).  After my husband was done, he planned on headed over to LAC to organize things (and to use their wireless internet.  Our hotel has wireless but the wireless at LAC is drastically faster.) while I did my running.

I had decided that since my easy pace and my interval pace had both increased, it was probably about time that I increased my tempo pace.  So today was my first day of trying to average around an 11:40 pace for my tempo run.  That meant I varied the pace between 5.1 and 5.2 mph (I like being able to mess with the pace some, it keeps me from getting too bored).  I ended up going 3.02 miles in my 35:00 minutes, which worked out to about 11:36 miles, which was good.

After my post-run clean up, I packed up my half of our supplies to head over and meet my husband at LAC.  I had gotten all the way to the library and was walking up the steps when I realized that I left my camera stand at the hotel.  So, I checked in, went through security, shoved all my stuff into a locker and then headed back to the hotel to retrieve it.  I finally got back to LAC and upstairs with all of my stuff around 10:30.

When I got there my husband said that the truck our stuff would be on would be arriving between 11 and 12, so we had some time to kill.  I worked on some blog posts and played some games on our tablet and enjoyed our view.  At first I would confuse my husband in where I picked to sit at LAC so he asked me about it.  I explained that I always tried to situate myself so no carts or people were blocking my view out the window.

At around 11:45, my husband and I went in and asked about our stuff.  It had gotten there, but all of it was having to go be looked through to see if it could be released to us and nothing else was coming for us that day.  We took our stuff and left to have some lunch.  My husband was disappointed and was not looking forward to wasting another day.  I suggested that we go back to DHH, where there were a few things we could photograph.

After eating, and looking through the finding aids at DHH, he decided we could find things to photograph at DHH so we packed up and headed over there.  We checked in and started requesting things.  The head archivist found out he was there and came out to talk to him.  Some of the stuff that he requested be declassified had been approved!  He was rather excited about getting things declassified and I was too.  It also meant that we had a good amount of stuff to do and didn't get through it all before they closed at 4.

We drove back and stopped by the Urban Cowboy food truck but found out they were only open for lunch!  Hopefully we will finally get to try their food for lunch tomorrow.

We went back to the hotel and planned out tomorrow especially carefully, since it was going to be our last research day.  We were heading to DHH to finish up stuff in the morning (our next possible set of LAC stuff wasn't going to be in until noon) and then to LAC to see if anything made it through.  My husband said that if it didn't (and we therefore had nothing to do in the afternoon) he wanted to go ahead and start our drive home by heading to Toronto.  I thought that would be a good idea.  It would mean that we get home earlier and that we can spend more time at Niagara Falls on our way home!
