Indoor Heat Wave

Last night, my husband had the idea to sleep in the basement on our air mattress since it was rather hot upstairs (the thermostat said 79).  I was ok, but since he was hot I thought sleeping in the basement would be a good idea.  It turned out he was right.  The house somehow managed to get warmed overnight and the thermostat said 82 when we woke up.  Maintenance was here yesterday and tried some stuff to make our AC work better, but it obviously didn't help.  We are having them back out today.  So for the near future, I will be mostly hanging out in the basement since it is at least 10 degree cooler here.

I spent until around 11 doing some digital copying for my husband and then it just got too hot for us to stay.  We waited around until maintenance got here at 11 and then we went off to different places that had AC.  My husband went up to schools and I went over to a friend's house.  I actually left for her house before hearing from here, but I knew that she wouldn't have a problem with me coming over, especially once I explained about the AC and I was right.

We (the dog and I) hung out over there for a few hours and then headed back home around 4.  My husband had called around 3 to tell me that they said they fixed the AC.  I wanted to be sure that I got home before 5 (the office closes at 6) so that they would have time to at least come and try to deal with it again if it wasn't working.  On the way home I saw a most welcome sight, at least in terms of release from the heat, rain!  According to my car's thermometer, the temperature dropped from 93 to 77 degrees over the 20 minute drive home.  16 degrees in 20 minutes, it was wonderful!  I know that just last week I had complained about the daily rain, but I will now gladly take that rain over the deathly heat we have suffered through this week.

The wonderful cooling rain!
When I got home, it was still very warm in the house (80 degrees).  I went and checked the AC vents and while they felt cool, there didn't seem to be any air coming out of them.  Like the AC was getting the air cold, but the cold air wasn't coming up from the vents.  My husband contacted maintenance again (I always try to have him contact them because he is much nicer and it would be easy for me to lose my patience to someone over the phone.  Once they get to the house I am pleasant) and they headed back over to our house.

They came over and cleared out some blockage in our vents and improved the airflow a little.  They said that it would take a while to cool down the house, about 2 degrees per hour, and that if it wasn't cooler in the morning to give them another call.  So now I get to sit in the house and wait to see if it gets cooler.  Also, the wonderful cool rain stopped and the sun is back out, so now it is hot and humid, boo!  My friend did offer to let us come and sleep in their guest room if we don't get cool enough so I am thankful for that.

The temperature in our house about 2 hours after the AC started working better.
My husband has a bible study type thing tonight, so I had dinner on my own, leftovers from last night.  After dinner I relaxed for a while to let the food settle and then I ran on my treadmill.  The rain had made it extremely humid and it was still rather hot so running outside would have been miserable.  Also, I like intervals on the treadmill better than outside by myself.  It is easier to be consistent and honest with my pacing on the treadmill than outside.

My intervals were intended to be 3 minutes slow run 3 minutes fast run and I was supposed to do 5 sets.  As always I made each fast run 0.1 mphs faster than the previous one, to make it more interesting.  I was getting tired and running out of the mental interest after the first 4, so on the last set I did instead 1 minute of really slow running and 1 minute of sprinting.  I did that 3 times to make a total of 30.  I really pushed myself on the sprints and the last 30 seconds or so I did at 7 mph, which is an 8:34 mile!  No I only did that for 0.05 of a mile, but it was really cool to be able to go that fast!

After my run I showered, cooled down and then ate my pie that I brought home from the restaurant last night!  It was French Silk pie and it was very good!  I really enjoyed it, although being hungry and craving chocolate couldn't hurt my opinion of it.  We decided to sleep in the basement again.  The house is cooling down very slowly.  Hopefully it will be decent again by tomorrow!
